General Questions:

The McLean County ReEntry Council was created to support individuals reentering society after incarceration, aiming to reduce recidivism and family crises. By providing resources such as job training, education, housing assistance, and mental health services, the council helps individuals rebuild their lives and reintegrate into their communities. The goal is to empower people impacted by the justice system, offering guidance and connections to improve their chances of success post-incarceration.

We currently have all the paperwork completed and are working on funding to pay for the 503c certification.

Yes, two members of the McLean County ReEntry Council have been incarcerated. Toy, the president, incarcerated over 20 years ago, experienced firsthand the difficulties of reentry. He began developing the framework for what would become the MCRC to provide the support and resources he lacked when trying to succesfully reenter, after leaving incarceration. Langston, one of our council members, was one of the first people helped by Toy’s work. Grateful for the partnerships and guidance Toy established, Langston became involved in the organization to pay it forward and support others.

 

The McLean County Reentry Council stands out from similar organizations through its proactive, community-centered approach.

One key difference is that we’ve developed and continually update a comprehensive resource directory specifically tailored for individuals transitioning out of incarceration. This directory ensures access to vital services and support systems.

Additionally, we host a free, annual event where community organizations come together to showcase how they can assist those reentering society.

Another distinctive feature is our monthly virtual meetings, open to everyone, where local resources present their services and foster connections between organizations and individuals in need. This ongoing engagement helps bridge the gap between community resources and those they aim to support, promoting successful reentry.

The McLean County Reentry Council provides assistance primarily in the initial stages of reentry, offering resources and support to help individuals build a foundation for their success. While our goal is to empower people to become independent, we are always available to help if needed. The MCRC is focused on short-term guidance, equipping individuals with the tools they need to take control of their own futures, rather than relying on extended support. We serve individuals reentering society within McLean County.

The McLean County Reentry Council doesn’t directly offer services, but supports individuals by connecting them with essential resources. While these are not all-encompassing, we help by connecting people who are reentering with resources for addiction treatment, mental health services, legal issues, and finding food and shelter. MCRC also assists with directing people to the proper places to secure necessary documents like IDs, birth certificates, or Social Security cards to ensure a smoother transition after release. Our goal is to link individuals with community services that help them reintegrate successfully and reduce barriers to stability.

The time it takes to find stable employment or housing through our services varies and is largely dependent on your engagement and willingness to utilize the connections we provide.

Employment depends on factors like available job openings, your skill set, adaptability, and readiness to learn new skills. Our resources can help connect you with employers who are open to hiring individuals with a criminal record.

As for housing, we work to connect you with organizations who know of temporary housing solutions and can refer you to felony-friendly rental agencies and landlords. The more actively you pursue these opportunities, the sooner you’ll achieve stability.
